The background is really white... I need to get these finished while its daylight cause my indoor lights seem  to all have some reflective qualities.  

I guess I didn't get painting this rose out of my system... This looks strangely like yesterday's painting...  well thats because I painted it with the same palette.  Hope you enjoy!

Beatiful Earth 04

I had to do some prep work today and I gessoed a number of surfaces. Paper of course was on of them. I painted this small colorful painting because I had an urge to do some abstract yet realistic. So I split the difference.

Are you getting tired of tulips, I've had a bit of a sinus problem this week so I've haven't painted as much as I usually do.

I think these photos just don’t turn out at night as well as those taken in outdoor light. This painting is much more delicate than this photo shows. I think its the flash.
It is 11:54 PM and I’ve just finished this painting and hurried to get it on line before midnight. I’ve really been having a difficult time getting all these commissions finished. I had three this week, and two of them were larger paintings, I’m still working on them, I’ll try to post them later this week if I can

Barb's tulips

Ok let’s see if this is the one, I made sure to measure the painted portion of the piece so that it would end up being 8 by 10. The actual painting is larger but since its just white, the buyer has the option of framing it small or bigger.
This painting is a bit more whimsical. It appears to me that the one tulip in the middle is being held on to by the two smaller tulips.
I guess I’ll hit the hay… its 1:57 am and I have to take the dogs to get their teeth cleaned at 7:00 am.

These colors are some of my new paints I'm trying out.
Its 12:27 and I just finished this painting... kinda missed the deadline by about 27 minutes but actually the photo upload and all probably took that long. I will be painting another one tomorrow as these are for a customer who wishes a companion piece.
This may look familiar to you and it should last year I painted "Tulips" and this is another version of that painting only slighly larger. The flowers are still red but a bit darker.

Baby Lizard

Here is a picture of the baby lizard that is living in my  Paper Plate Hibiscus plant, he's about 1.5 inches long and is very cute.  I gave him some aphids and I'm not even sure if he eats aphids but he looks interested.   I hope the birds don't get him.  He is kinda cute. 

Morning Glory

This is one of my favorite flowers and I thought I would post a picture of them. Some years I can get them to grow and other years the slugs get them. These are in a pot so it helps that they aren't in the dirt.

Bell flower by Shanti Marie

Working with some new reds, I have found this red has a bit of grit to it or as they say "sediment" It may be more ideally suited for landscapes or brick walls that sort of thing. Flowers tend to be painted with transparent dye type paints. They usually give very clean clear washes without too much body. I like the pink... it's very soft and would make some great pink roses. I'll have to look up the names for these paints colors for you.. I'll try to do that later today. check back for the updates.

"Little Pinks" a watercolor painting by Shanti Marie

This little painting was basically painted from my imagination, I wanted to try out some new paints I received as a gift from a friend who is also an artist. Earlier this week a box arrived for me and inside was all kinds of watercolors and inks. It was like a holiday!

I’ve been painting with the same pallet for at least two years so its fun to try some different colors.

Bachelors

This piece was inspired by the wood peckers that come to my house to eat suet. I assume this bird is a he, its a beautiful bird with a touch of red on his head. He is very comical, he walks up and down the tree trunk, I guess looking for bugs or whatever and when I come outside he just walks around to the other side of the tree.

Blue water lily

This little painting is a real gem at 3.5 by 7 inches. It's unique size makes sit a great painting to place in an unusual spot,or on a small easel. These painting make great gifts too.

Watercolor on gessoed panel. No need to frame under glass. These watercolors are protected with a UV fixative (or varnish if you prefer). I have painted a companion piece for this white flower, also a Pink Lillie which came out rather nice and one big red flower. I painted one last night real late and three this morning because I got up at the crack of dawn before anyone arrived.
There’s a big storm coming in so I wanted to get my porch and deck cleaned up and my flower-beds ready for my annual flower planting.

Usually in the spring I get out in the yard and plant flowers and pull weeds from around the condo and the garden. Today I hired a helper and when we were getting everything cleaned up, two baby opossums popped out from under our deck. They were very cute. They looked like they couldn't’t see very well in the bright sunlight. Sort of like me when I first wake up. They were a bit confused because they got sprayed with a pressure washer, ( we didn’t know they were under there). When they came out they were all wet and looking pretty goofy. I know, I know, everyone thinks their ugly, but baby anything is pretty cute. One had black spots on his head. I didn’t know some had spots I thought they were pretty much all the same, grey and white.

Anyway If I see them again I’ll take a photo of them for you.

This is and ACEO or Artist trading Card…. which is 2.5 by 3.5, A watercolor on paper $16.00 plus 1.5 s & h (the same size as a baseball card).this flower was painted with yellow, quin gold, orange red, and green.
Each of the petals was painted with the lightest paint first then the darks were laid over the lights while wet. Last was the leaves and stem, they were painted with the light yellow green first then the darker green. I use a flat brush which makes it easys to do the leaves and petals.

Fire Flower, ACEO

These small cards are a lot of fun to paint and are good for anyone having problems with composition. The small size means you can't fill them up with things that aren't important. It forces you to think in terms of shape and size instead of items.

I love these colors Quin gold, & Quin coral for the petals and skips green for the leaves and stem with a bit of sepia for contrast.
